The Mavilakkavu(mavilakavu) Adi Ulsavam of Year 2011 was a treat for all mavilayi eyes irrespective of the cast and religion.
First Day: April 14th. As usual the festival commences one day before Vishu, means this year it fell on 14th April. This day the “Kavil Kayaral”, means the beginning of festival happened n 14th. Then the usual daily poojas and prayers happened in temple.
Second Day: April 15th. Early morning 4 AM, the Vishu “Kani kanal” happened at temple. Same day “Mudi” (which is a custom where Daivathar keep his crown- symbolises readiness of daivathar) happened at kunimmal idam . The Villattam (A kind of prayer offered to daivathar) happens at all 8 sub temples of Mavilakkavu happened on same day. After all Daivathar returns and removes ‘Mudi’ and ends that days happenings. Then the routine pooja happened in temple.
Third Day: April 16th. The “Mudi” happens at kunnothidam, which is near to mavilakkavu temple. Daivathar moves to Kadachira ‘Arayal thara’ (Banyan tree resting place) for ‘thikkal’. Daivathar moves to “Kacheri kavu” where villattam, then “avil koodu eriyal” happened. Followed by “Adi” of mootha koorvadu and ilaya koorvadu, daivathar and kaikonmar returns back to temple, villattam, removes daivathars mudi, then daily pooja.
Fourth Day: April 17th. Mudi happened at Kunimmal idam , then thikkal happened at mocheri vayal, arattu tara, chathothu ida, returned to kunnothidam for thikkal, then in temple , villattam and removes mudi. Daily Pooja Happened there.
Fifth Day: April 18th. Kunnoth idam mudi happened, then “nada panju kayattam” where daivathar and kaikonmar climb the temple steps by running. Then Villattam at temple, removes mudi. Then happens the main “ADI” in Neelanira vayal Moonnam palam.
Sixth Day: April 19th.
Kunnothidam mudi, villattam then “manjal kuri eriyal” (daivathar throwing the turmeric powder at kaikonmar), daily pooja.
The “arattu ulsavam” combination of dance and stage programs happens near moonnu periya. This year there was grand functions and stage shows by surya tv, asianet fames.
It was started with “Ganesha Pooja” (Stage pooja offered to lord ganapathy) by Ashraf. There were lots of participants from all community in the show which depicts the religious harmony of Mavilayi and Kannur which is seen all over kerala. Even the viewers were not only Hindus, but also from all communities.
Later on “Thidambu Nrutham” a classical dance done by priests of temples happens, which then happens in temple, bath at temple, panja punyaham and visheshal poojas(Special poojas), navakam .
Seventh Day: April 20th. Chuttu vilakku done by near by peoples(the temple is decorated with deepa/diyas)
